What does IMI do?

  • IMI connects your iPhone or iPod Touch to this server. You can browse the interval-based workouts found here and add them to your device, then run the workout at any time, even without an internet connection.
  • In addition to displaying the intervals on the device, IMI speaks your intervals to you. e.g. "Next interval: 5 minutes at cadence 90 and zone sub-LT, starting in 3, 2, 1, begin".
  • IMI displays your personal target watts and heart rate for the current interval.
  • IMI contains a built-in implementation of the ipod music player with which you can:
    • Set a default music collection
    • Set a music collection for a given workout
    • Set per-intensity-zone music collections
    • Set the app to auto-start music with the workout
  • IMI will automatically "duck" the player volume when it needs to speak.
  • Get Daily workouts that have been added to a Training Plan on the IMI website. When one or more plans is active, the iphone will fetch the current day's workouts, and allow "earlier/later" browsing of the plan's workouts.
  • Get workouts that are shared among a group. Groups (e.g. coaching group, college team) can be configured by the IMI administrator and group admins designated who can invite users to join.

How does IMI work?

  • After registering on this site, you can create your own workouts. You may set the workout to public to share with the IMI community.
  • When you save the workout the intervals are converted into small Ogg Vorbis files on the server.
  • Your user profile saves your personal aerobic threshold watts and heart rate, and the IMI app will use this value to calculate your target range for each interval where a zone is specified.
  • In your device settings you enter your user/pwd for this site and when launched the IMI app will show public workouts and your personal workouts.
  • When you load a workout to your device the workout and its audio files are saved on the device and remain there until you delete them. The average workout has only about 1MB of data to load
  • Create their own training plans of workouts or have a coach/group_admin assign you training plans with workouts that appear on a daily basis in your device. Soon you will also be able to purchase premium plans by noted coaches.
